Dumaguete Hotel

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I get many questions what is the best Dumaguete Hotel. That’s always hard to say as there is a wide range of Hotels in Dumaguete and the surrounding Beaches. A backpacker wants something different than a family, some need a beach Resort in Dauin, others need WIFI.

On our site www.dumagueteinfo .com we have some recommendations. So you can find out what is the best Hotel in Dumaguete for you. One which is always very high in the customer reviews is Hotel Palwa. The Hotel is central in Dumaguete and most is in walking distance. Also central located is Obdulias Business Inn. Just opened recently everything is new. Both Hotels offer WIFI for free to their guests.

When you arrive with your Kids you may consider Florentina Homes. Florentina Homes is a beutiful designed Appartelle. Each Appartment has 2 Bedrooms a kitchenette and a living area. Gabbys Bistro is the restaurant of Florentina and benefits from the long experience of chef Gabby in leading european restaurants.

More on the Budget Side is Casa Demonteverde. Casa Demonreverde is a homstay for Budget-traveler in Daro close to the Airport. The rooms have all a own shower and TV. At the moment Casa Demonteverde is about to install allso a wireless Internet System for their guests.

For more information how to find the right Hotel in Dumaguete you wanna have a look at our Dumaguete Hotel Site.

Local Designers

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

With helping to run Dumagueteinfo.com it is part of my job to announce events and other stuff when I get the information.

a few days ago Alex the manager of Edelweiss (a austrian pub in Dumaguete) informed me that they have a Elvis-performance this coming weekend and asked me if I can put it up on the Board. Sure, no problem, I visited him to get a file with pictures and the poster.

It has been designed by a local shop (and one of the biggest). I have no Idea what the task of the designer was, but I assume his job was: How many mistakes can you make in one design :-) or maybe how many fonts can I squeeze in one poster … or maybe it was a  ” wow, what-does-that-photoshop-icon-means?-job

… or the shop forwarded the task to a local elementary school as a grade 1 – project …

whatever, I hope Alex did not have to pay for that…

never mind, at least it made me smile and tought me which shop NOT to go if I ever need a disgn…

Performance reviews

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

I am pretty sure many of you who managed employees needed to write a recommodation letter. But what if that guy was a total waste of time? I found some quotes on another board and needed to steal that. Enjoy…

1. “Since my last report, this employee has reached rock-bottom and has started to dig.”

2. “I would not allow this employee to breed.”

3. “This employee is really not so much of a has-been, but more of a definite won’t be.”

4. “Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap.”

5. “When he opens his mouth, it seems that it is only to change feet.”

6. “This young lady has delusions of adequacy.”

7. “He sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.”

8. “This employee is depriving a village somewhere of an i****.”

9. “This employee should go far, and the sooner he starts the better.”

10. “Got a full 6-pack, but lacks the plastic thingy to hold it all together.”

11. “A gross ignoramus – 144 times worse than an ordinary ignoramus.”

12. “He doesn’t have ulcers, but he’s a carrier.”

13. “I would like to go hunting with him sometime.”

14. “He’s been working with glue too much.”

15. “He would argue with a sign-post.”

16. “He brings a lot of joy whenever he leaves the room.”

17. “When his IQ reaches 50, he should sell.”

18. “If you see two people talking and one looks bored, he’s the other one.”

19. “A photographic memory but with the lens cover glued on.”

20. “A prime candidate for natural de-selection.”

21. “Donated his brain to science before he was done using it.”

22. “Gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn’t coming.”

23. “He’s got two brains cells, one is lost and the other is out looking for it.”

24. “If he were any more stupid, he’d have to be watered twice a week.”

25. “If you give him a penny for his thoughts, you’d get change.”

26. “If you stand close enough to him, you can hear the ocean.”

27. “It’s hard to believe he beat out 1,000,000 other sperm.”

28. “One neuron short of a synapse.”

29. “Some drink from the fountain of knowledge; he only gargled.”

30. “Takes him 2 hours to watch 60-minutes.”

31. “The wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead.

Bohol in 28 and a half hour

Monday, February 16th, 2009

After 2 “relaxing” hours of sleep my little one woke me up and told me to get ready for our trip to Well Beach Resort. Yeah, I did not tell her that we go on a trip to Bohol.

After the Valentines night out I looked a bit like this Tarsier on the picture. One eye wouldn’t open, unshaved and in general a bit hang-overed. But ok, I rolled myself out of the protecting surroundings of my bed and made it to the bathroom to refresh… Useless.. We went to the Pier in Dumaguete got on the Ocean Jet and headed towards Tagbilaran on Bohol.

The sea was calm and after 1:40 hours we stepped on Bohol. My little one was a bit confused as she had Well Beach Resort a bit different in her mind. We only stay one night on Bohol so we were up to the whole tourist-tour in one day….

Tarsier Sanctuary

Kim who is on a tour through the PI with his parents and Ate BigC picked us up at the pier and off we went. The first place we visited was the Tarsier-Sanctuary where my little one finally understood where we are. I am pretty sure that her eyes were bigger than the Tarsier ones and her excitement was not to stop the whole day. I have no Idea where that tiny girl gets the energy from… From there we went to the river-cruise with lunch on the Loboc River. The calm ride with a nice buffet through the Jungle is 300 Peso including one soft-drink and lasts about an hour. A nice relaxing trip ad midday, to tank enough energy for moving on to the Steps of Death at the Chocolate Hills.

On the way to this unbelievable Landscape we stopped at the Man-Made-Forrest what is considered as a tourist attraction in Bohol. For me it looks a bit like a average Forrest in Germany but at least we found a couple of Killer – Worms 30 – 50 centimeter long and listened to the Horror-Stories the girls knew to tell about them.

… Be reminded that even the cute Tokos are man-eating Killers with razor-sharp teeth which steal your dreams when biting you and replacing them with nightmares and bad spirit…

Chocolate Hills

Arriving at the Chocolate Hills we decided to avoid the steps and took the “easier” way up. Even it’s not my first time there, it’s just a breathtaking exciting view up there. When I look at this picture I think Siquijor need to pass on the title “Island of Witches” to Bohol !!!

Seems like all 3 feel quite comfortable on the 3-seater-broom…

Bohol Butterfly Farm

Just a short ride from the Chocolate Hills is the Bohol Butterfly Farm. They extended it a bit and it’s a interesting 30 minute stop for 20 Peso entrance. We were able to play with moths butterflies and a lot of interesting stuff.

One very interesting aspects in the life of a butterfly is that they make love between 6 and 24 hours and don’t stop even flying around. The even better argument is that the female has to carry the man while he just “hangs” on her…. and last but not least, the female has only once “love” in her entire life while the male is “more flexible”. When they also start drinking San Miguel you can bet what I will be in my next life…

Hanging Bridge

Next stop was another Tarsier place along the Loboc River. You can also book smaller boats for a river-cruise here. The last stop was the Hanging Bridge, which is not that spectacular, but nice to cross and take some great pictures of the river and it’s surrounding Jungle.

On the other side of the Hanging Bridge you will find the self announced “King of Coconuts“. If you spend 100 Peso he peels a coconut for you and your group with his teeth in 10 seconds or so.

After that we finally went to the resort called Lost Horizon. Kim booked room for me and we had a refreshing shower before heading to a seafood place at the beach. I can tell you that I was tired and was a kind of happy that the bar closed at midnight.

The Ocean Jet back to Dumaguete goes at 8 am so the night was short again. With the obligatory delay we were back in Dumaguete after 28,5 hours and even it was a bit rushing it, it was a great trip and my 2 girls and I loved it.

cheers

.. and here my Valentines Day

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I am not into this Kano-Cultural thingies like Halloween or Valentines Day. That’s all a kinda commercial creation for me. I look like Halloween each day anyway and also love all Ladies the whole year around. Flowers belong in the garden and never got a free beer for trick or treat when I accidentally knocked my neighbors door at 4 am after stumbling home, or what I thought it’s home…

Yeah, I took advantage of Valentines Day back in Sabang (Puerto Galera). I went to the bars around 11pm. All girls who had no Valentino that time were deadly sad and hey… I have a BIG Heart…

Now as I became a good buy over the last 38 years I decided that it’s time to make something special. In the Afternoon I sent my GF to the pier to buy some tickets going to Bohol. She and the little one never have been there, so they simply deserved it. Another excuse for that trip is of course my friend was there with his family.

Before I had to set up the sound-system at Edelweiss. My GF and I met after that at around 10:30 pm in Casablanca to hit the road after a cold one there, direction Why Not. The place was packed and we met many friends. The problem with many friends is , that you need to drink some alcoholic beverages. We did pretty well in that and once again we closed the place at around 3:30 am. We were at home at 4 and went straight to sleep for a relaxing 2 hour rest before the trip to Bohol starts.

Summary: Valentines Day… Business as usual

Why in the wide wide world of sport are this ferries going at 7 in the morning… ooops that was my Why question for the day….

Bohol we are coming

Mikes Adventure Dive Shop Dumaguete

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Mike Feeney is not only a good friend of mine. He is also the owner of the Adventure Dive Shop at the Boulevard in Dumaguete City. The Adventure Diveshop is also known as Mike’s Diveshop. There is always a great family – feeling as soon as you step in the shop. Things are running smoothly. Sure in a big dive-resort it might be more convenient.

Mike is since 7 or so years in Dumaguete, and still not tired or burned out. If he is not busy with diving he takes care of his family, guests, street-kids, drowned boats or SMB. I have no idea where this little man with the big heart takes all the energy from. At the moment he has his cozy little resort in Dauin under construction, which hopefully opens it’s gate in 4-6 month. I can’t wait until I dive with my friends in Apo Island, having some cold ones and fall asleep in a hammock between 2 palm-trees.

You will be welcome in his little Waterfront Cafe at the Rizal Boulevard if you are diving or just wanna have breakfast, some beer or try his Mexican food. His dishes are probably the closed you can get to Mexican food in Dumaguete.

He is happy to arrange you a nice package from the airport pick-up to accommodation, diving and land-based adventure trips.

One of his packages includes a room for a night, two meals, 2 dives at Apo Island and all transportation for about 80 US-Dollar. It won’t get much better than that. For about 100 US$ you can stay in a neat resort like the Swiss owned Well-Beach Resort.

Mikes Adventure Diveshop is not only for budget traveler. It is definitely one of the places to consider for a great dive-vacation in Dumaguete.

Cheers
