Dumaguete - Photo - Video Studio

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

This is a testpost about Video and Photo studio in Dumaguete. Is has several reasons. For now I just make a test about a new plug in I am using, so I need to write something.  The Photo and Video issue is not that wild, as I need occasionally a professional photographer for some of my projects.

Like some know I was involved with the Octoberfest last year in Dumaguete. I wanted a video Coverage of that event and also someone who takes photo. I had enough to organize and didn’t want to run around to take all the shots by myself.

The Video was no problem as I could rely on a local TV-company who showed up and for some food and free beer they recorded  all and made me a nice DVD.

The  photo-shooting was another issue. I only have a cheap digital camera and the flash does not lite up enough that everything further than 5 meters is dark and blur. I looked online for a Photoshop or Photostudio in Dumaguete but all I got as result were some Sulit crap adds and some stuff from Cebu. So I ended up taking the pictures by myself.

It was a good thing that a fiend of mine came with his huge digital camera where probably all local professional Photographer will dream of and was taking hundreds of great shots for me.  So at the end I had 3 CD from a semi professional photographer and a Video from a local TV Station in Dumaguete. So at the end I had what I wanted.

If you, dear reader, wonder what crap Rhoody is writing here, it is simply a test if my new plug in works and how fast I can rank in Google for Photo and Video or Photostudio and photoshop in Dumaguete. After ranking I will delete it again. If you read until here I really have respect, Drop me a line I owe you a beer for that patience. And keep in mind I am NOT a Photographer or own a photo and video studio in Dumaguete.

My visit in Tacloban part 2

Friday, April 24th, 2009

It’s been long time that I logged on to make the continuation of my report of my visit in Tacloban. Its just make me feel bad because its make me more thinking of my son.

it seems like my son is just here with me, because when I was  passing at the public market, the young boy  vendor  want to sell some rags  and native fan ,he’s eye are showing  of  bagging  and so emotionally.

The young vendor is about in my son’s age, I don’t want to buy  any of  the sale item he have ,but  I  also ask how much per small round rag he have and also big rags, as a start of our conversation. We had small talk, I ask him if he sold  out more of this rags ,  how long he is on the street selling  those things and some personal questions…All  of  my questions he answered.

When I get home , while I’m  arranging  all of my plastic bags from shopping ,suddenly  the rag vendor boy came to my mind, his answer and stories about why he do the summer job. Instead of having summer class or enjoy his summer vacations from the school..

It made me thinking more about my son, because the rag vendor helps  his Family  for there every day  living ..  They are five kids in the family, he is the second.

He is already 2 years late in  his studies, instead of grade 5 this coming school year he just in grade 3 if  possible that he has a chance to go to school…

All the stories he had as a little kid helping their parents, I also experience that as older sister in the Family, I grow up as helper of my grandmother for everything.  She build me into a hard working  kid, she  teach me how to take care of the house  and selling food on the street, also to take care of our small fast   food in our barangay, in Tacloban. We sale   barbecue in the public market each night  and sometime I cant go to school because I’m so tired and don’t have enough sleep, a reason why my grades are not that good.

Same as the little boy vendor, when I’m in his age too I don’t have enough time to play, enjoy being  a kid.  I consider  that this boy is luckier because at least he is with his parents and the whole family is just there…  this boy  make’s  me feel  lonely that at the moment  I’m so far to my son, that I cant see how he is,  and help him for what he needs..  My son is the reason why I visit in Tacloban.

I know there is not so much about my trip to Tacloban, just some thoughts crossed my mind while sitting here. I promise that the other parts Tripreport to Tacloban and Manila will continue… some when soon

Casablanca Restaurant Deli and Sushibar in Dumaguete

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

The Austrian owned Restaurant Casablanca in Dumaguete is one of the best restaurants in Dumaguete and this region.

A wide mediterranian selection and Guenthers art of cooking is well known for quality. That in combination with his outgoing personality will give you an outstanding dining experience in Dumaguete.

Casablanca has also a Deli with a nice selection of imported sausages, cheese and ham and canned stuff. If you want something different, just have a Sampler from Casablanca’s Sushibar. The neat small sushibar is perfect for your and you darling to have a romantic evening with some exotic delights.

Who wants it a bit more rustically orders a German Haxn and one of the over 20 imported beer. Guenther the Owner asked me to take some Pictures for his Casablanca-Website, so I spent some time there and enjoyed free food and drinks, here is a small selection of the pictures which didn’t make it to the Casablanca webpage:

If you ever are in Dumaguete don’t miss out to visit the IMHO best Restaurant in Dumaguete. If you go there, please don’t tell the staff that I posted the pictures here in my blog…

Quality Dive-Shops in the Philippines

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

I am freelancing since a while like many know. Being trained in one of the best PADI-Dive-center in the Philippines my safety-thinking is relatively high developed and I try to explain that to my students and divers many times why I suggest doing it “this way” instead of “that”.

A couple of weeks ago I received the weekly newsletter of Asia Divers, the Shop in Puerto Galera which is mainly responsible why I am in the Philippines. (and of course the brilliant owners and staff there…) Guess I earned my Brownie Points now … hehe

Usually newsletters are about fun and how wonderful everything is. In that edition was another sort of story and before I continue, I wanna let you read it first.. (the following is partially copy/pasted from the original Asia Divers Newsletter)

Not every day goes they way we would like and certainly, like anywhere, the unexpected happens. On Monday the 9th of March we had the most unexpected when one of our new students who had only just gotten into the pool to do a “Discover Scuba” had what we think was a stroke! Our man who we will not name had just put his head under the water when he started to act a little abnormal and within a few seconds lost consciousness. Thanks to the quick work by Peter, Jamie and Brad, our man was out of the water, suit cut off and CPR was being administered. During the few minutes of CPR Dave raced in with a defibrillator in hand and set up for shock treatment. After a series of two shocks and sets of CPR our man gasped his breathing, and stayed so, till we managed to get him in record time to Batangas St Patrick’s hospital. Needless to say we were all in a state of shock and disbelief….

Things like that are happening, and I was also involved in several accidents (as rescuer, not victim). While reading it, many things went through my mind. I remember that while I was working there we had several cases, quite interesting that no diving problem was involved there… Here in Dumaguete I had one serious one with a DM of the resort I was working in.

During my time here in the Philippines I saw so many “highly-trained” people including Course Directors, Staff Instructors, and Dive-Master running around like chicken without head, making wrong decisions or are under the influence of a “special tip in advanced” and simply risking the life of customer who trust them in their judgment.

I definitely know not one single dive-shop (including PADI-CDC) who have a defibrillator. One shop has a training-model and I rented it for one of my rescue courses and guess what… broken zipper and no batteries… by the way CDC means Career Development Centre… hmmm

I will analyze the situation further in the next article ‘cause I need to get some diving done first…

Cheers for now and happy weekend

Ghosts, Religion and Intelligence explained in 800 words

Chatting on Yahoo is a real big thing in the Philippines. I found the following conversation on a Internet-Forum. To keep the original poster in the back-ground I changed the name to Paul and the girls name to .. hmmm : girl

For human beings without experience in the Philippines it sounds totally unreal and faked but I can ensure, that you will hear that kind of stories about ghosts and all that crap almost daily when living here in the biggest catholic community (%-wise) worldwide.

I did not edit anything, next to the names and”oo” means yes
